North Richmond Housing Estate
‘North Richmond Housing Estate’ community design
Client: Department of Human Services / North Richmond Housing Estate (Aus)
Consultant: CoDesign Studio (Melbourne)
Role: Design consultant / project co-lead
As part of the larger Richmond Renewal Project, CoDesign Studio was engaged to work with DHS in conducting a signage audit and redesign at the North Richmond Housing Estate. The Renewal Project’s goal was to create livable, well-connected communities for a diverse mix of residents, while also contributing to the amenity of the surrounding areas.
The project team worked through a collaborative development process which included site research, multiple rounds of community engagement and workshops, and design development to arrive at the final solution.
I served as a design consultant and team leader, assisting with the design of the project, liaising with with the estate working group, and advising and overseeing the design development. I coordinated a signage audit and compiled the research report. Community engagement was a collaborative process over a number of months in an effort include input from a wide range of residents. The design process was also collaborative with a range of potential designs being developed through community consultation, and the final design being decided via the estate working group.
