I work on complex social, environmental and technological problems, in academic research and in applied projects with organisations that need to understand and act on them. My approach is analytical, collaborative and, where useful, experimental. I hold a PhD in environmental geography and have more than twenty years’ experience across research, public and community sectors in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
Systems thinking and critical analysis: Mapping how social, environmental and technological factors interact, and questioning the assumptions that shape a problem.
Applied research and synthesis: Qualitative and mixed-method research, using established and experimental approaches, that turns complex evidence into clear insights, frameworks and recommendations.
Engagement and co-design: Bringing diverse stakeholders and communities into the process, so research is grounded and its outcomes are shared.
