Justin Westgate – cultural and creative researcher

I work at the intersection of critical research, systems thinking, and strategic design to explore complex challenges in climate resilience, governance, and socio-technical systems.
My focus is on process and translation: bridging critical inquiry with applied design methods to address cross-cutting challenges. I collaborate with research centres, public agencies, and mission-driven teams to facilitate deep discovery, illuminate systems dynamics, and shape tailored responses to shifting social and environmental contexts. Drawing on more than twenty years of cross-sector experience across Australia, New Zealand and the UK, I bring a grounded, evidence-based approach to reframing complex issues and supporting informed decision-making.

Critical inquiry and systems analysis

Participatory co-design and engagement
Structured, culturally responsive engagement processes designed to bring diverse, siloed, and competing stakeholder perspectives into alignment.

Knowledge translation and strategic framing
Translating dense academic research, multi-source data, and policy intent into clear conceptual models, strategic frameworks, and practical toolkits.
